Pilot Core
Cornelia Beck, PhD, RN
Jean McSweeney, PhD, RN The goal of the Pilot/Feasibility Studies Core of Research Center for Tailored Behavioral Interventions at the UAMS College of Nursing (CON) is to educate and mentor Center investigators to conduct research on tailored behavioral interventions that will advance nursing science and inform clinical practice. The primary function of the Pilot/Feasibility Studies Core will be to help Center investigators gain the necessary new knowledge and skills to develop and test tailored biobehavioral interventions. The Pilot Core will provide mentoring, education, and expert consultation that is needed to enhance and expand our research capacity. Investigators in the College of Nursing place high value on research mentoring. The Core Director, Dr. Cornelia Beck; Co-Director, Dr. Jean McSweeney; and Center Director, Dr. Kathy Richards, have a strong history of successfully mentoring beginning investigators and are committed to supporting the investigators of pilot/feasibility studies. Other federally funded Center investigators and scientists from other disciplines also will serve as mentors and consultants. The Pilot/Feasibility Studies Core will foster a non-threatening, supportive learning environment where Center investigators interested in the science of tailored behavioral interventions are free to ask questions and explore fresh ideas. Core activities will emphasize and encourage both spontaneous and structured interactions among Center investigators that will increase synergy and enhance collaborative interdisciplinary research. The Specific Aims are to:
1. Provide education,
consultation, and mentoring for Center investigators on the
2. Mentor Center
investigators on using theory and conceptual models to guide research
3. Facilitate the
development, conduct, and dissemination of findings from
pilot/feasibility 4. Mentor Center investigators in developing proposals for external funding.
